Dark Souls 3 10th Anniversary Remake Splits Gamers, And We Get it

It is hard to believe that we have just passed the 10th anniversary of the release of Dark Souls III. As the last entry in the beloved FromSoftware trilogy, it marks the last Dark Souls entry, and with no signs of a potential Dark Souls 4, it may be the last one we ever receive.

Released back in 2016 as the culmination of FromSoftware’s hit trilogy, Dark Souls III was, once again, met with critical acclaim and commercial success, going on to welcome two DLC expansions: Ashes of Ariandel and The Ringed City. Finally, Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition, which consisted of both the base game and two DLCs, was launched back in 2017. With many regarding Dark Souls III to be a worthy finale to the franchise, it is no wonder that now, ten-years on, some fans are calling out for a potential remaster whilst others disagree, stating that Dark Souls III has aged perfectly.

With technology advancing at a rapid rate in recent years, and photorealistic graphics becoming the norm, it is no surprise that some of our favorite video games are getting the remaster and remake treatment more frequently, despite only being just a few years old. Now, with Dark Souls III recently celebrating its 10th anniversary, many fans feel as though it is eligible for at least a remaster. That is the thought of one user over on r/darksouls3 who recently shared, “Dark Souls 3 Remaster. Lord, I HOPE it gets announced. I know it doesn’t need it, but man, I want it.”

As you can imagine, a discussion soon ensued with fans butting heads over a potential remaster of the iconic FromSoftware title. “If you want DS3, play DS3…” the top comment read. Another agreed, adding, “But why? The 60fps version looks amazing. There’s no need to remaster it.” However, another user agreed, suggesting some ways that a potential remaster could improve the game. “The lighting engine is hella outdated, as well as some of the effects (blood looking weird especially) and they could also fix the exploits,” they shared.

Here at Screen Rant, we previously reported on fan’s thoughts about a potential remake for the entire Dark Souls trilogy after a leak hinted at its potential. However, once again, discourse ensued with fans failing to come to a unanimous decision when it comes to a remaster and rerelease of the trilogy as a whole. After all, Dark Souls Remastered launched back in 2011. However, with both Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 yet to receive the modern-day treatment, it would not be a surprise if a remaster was confirmed in the near future.

For now, however, if you wish to experience one of the greatest games of all time, you will have to make do with the 2016 version of Dark Souls III.
