The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 continues to deliver high-octane drama, and the 56th match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was no exception. On Tuesday, fans witnessed a tactical masterclass and a moment of pure fielding brilliance as Gujarat Titans (GT) hosted Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). With both teams neck-and-neck in the points table, the stakes were sky-high, but it was Heinrich Klaasen’s spectacular reflexes that stole the early headlines in this high-voltage encounter.
Heinrich Klaasen’s brilliant sharp catch sends Shubman Gill back during GT vs SRH game
The Ahmedabad crowd was silenced early in the first innings when GT skipper Shubman Gill fell victim to an extraordinary piece of fielding. In just the third over, young SRH pacer Praful Hinge delivered a full delivery, slanting into the off-stump. Gill, looking to establish dominance, planted his front foot for a signature shovel on-drive. However, he failed to get the necessary elevation, hitting the ball flat toward mid-on.
What looked like a certain boundary or at least a safe chip turned into a disaster for the Titans. Klaasen, stationed at mid-on, showed why he is considered one of the most athletic players in the tournament. Lunging forward with pinpoint timing, Klaasen plucked the ball just inches off the turf. The stadium held its breath as the umpires checked for a clean catch, but the replay confirmed Klaasen’s fingers were firmly underneath the ball.

GT put up a challenging target against SRH
Despite the early loss of their captain and the subsequent departure of Jos Buttler for just 7, Gujarat Titans managed to reconstruct their innings through gritty performances. Sai Sudharsan played the anchor role to perfection, smashing 61 off 44 balls, decorated with five fours and two towering sixes. He found a reliable partner in Washington Sundar, who played a blistering cameo against his former franchise. Sundar’s unbeaten 50 off 33 balls proved vital in the death overs, pushing the total toward respectability.
The Sunrisers’ bowling attack, led by the disciplined Pat Cummins (1/20), kept the pressure on for most of the innings. Young Sakib Hussain also made his mark, picking up two crucial wickets for 37 runs. However, the Titans utilized their “Fortress Ahmedabad” knowledge to navigate the middle overs, eventually finishing at 168/5 after their 20 overs.
While SRH entered the break as favourites, the 169-run target on a surface showing signs of grip remains a competitive total. With Rashid Khan and Mohammed Siraj ready to defend the home turf, the second half promises to be a thriller as both teams eye the top spot in the IPL 2026 standings.
