IPL 2026 [WATCH]: Anukul Roy castles Tristan Stubbs with an absolute ripper during DC vs KKR encounter

The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi witnessed a masterclass in defensive bowling as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took on the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 51st match of IPL 2026 on May 08. In a high-octane encounter where the pitch offered subtle assistance to the slower bowlers, KKR’s strategic decision to field first paid rich dividends. While the capital city expected a flurry of boundaries, they were instead treated to a tactical strangulation by the KKR bowling unit, headlined by a career-defining spell from Anukul Roy.

Anukul Roy knocks over Tristan Stubbs with a sensational delivery in DC vs KKR game

The momentum of the match shifted irrevocably in the 11th over, a passage of play that will be etched in the highlights reel of IPL 2026. After having already dismissed the dangerous Pathum Nissanka just four balls prior, Roy produced a moment of magic that left the Delhi crowd in stunned silence.

Facing the fifth ball of the 11th over (10.5), the explosive Tristan Stubbs was looking to rebuild the innings. However, Roy had other plans. Operating from around the wicket, Roy fired in a 95 km/h length ball that pinpointed the stump-to-stump line. Stubbs, known for his quick hands, remained rooted to his back foot, attempting to clear his front leg to punch the ball through the covers.

The delivery, however, skidded off the surface with a treacherous low bounce. Stubbs played for the turn that wasn’t there, poking at the air as the ball zipped past his outside edge to castle the top of off-stump. It was a classic left-arm spinner’s dismissal, beating the batter for pace and trajectory. Stubbs departed for a meagre 2 off 4 balls, leaving the DC middle order in tatters at 89/5.

KKR’s spin choke restricts DC to post a huge score

Despite a blistering start by Nissanka, who smashed a 29-ball 50 (including 5 fours and 3 sixes), the Delhi Capitals failed to capitalize on their home advantage. Once the Powerplay concluded at 55/1, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane unleashed his spin department, which turned the game into a battle of attrition.

The ‘spin choke’ was orchestrated primarily by the trio of Roy, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakravarthy. Narine was virtually unplayable, conceding a ridiculous 17 runs in his 4 overs at an economy of 4.25, while picking up the wicket of Sameer Rizvi. Roy finished his match-winning spell with figures of 3/31, effectively removing the core of the DC batting lineup.

The Capitals’ innings concluded at a disappointing 142/8 after 20 overs. With a run rate of just 7.10 on a Delhi surface that usually favours high scoring, KKR entered the innings break with a massive win probability. The disciplined bowling effort ensured that the DC power-hitters, including Axar Patel and Mitchell Starc, were never allowed to break the shackles.
