The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman is teaming up with actors Miles Teller and Eddie Redmayne for an action spy thriller drama on the big screen.
Liman took Hollywood by storm in 2002 with The Bourne Identity, his first action movie. Though he never directed any of the other entries in this film series, primarily anchored by Matt Damon, he has helmed various other movies in the genre. Now Liman is preparing to return to his roots with this Teller and Redmayne-led film.
According to Variety, the two actors are in discussions to star in Star One. The movie will follow two “wildly mismatched” CIA agents, with Teller playing the “daring and charismatic” one, and Redmayne playing a “strait-laced strategist.” These characters will embark on a top-secret mission “across thousands of miles of enemy territory to covertly deliver arms.”
Star One is based on an “untold true story” that, as described in the official synopsis, “The first intelligence star ever awarded for one of the most important yet least known missions in modern history.” Liman will direct the feature, and The Family Plan’s David Coggeshall is writing the script.
This will be Liman’s follow-up to Bitcoin, the upcoming cryptocurrency-focused biographical thriller movie starring Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, Gal Gadot and Isla Fisher. Star One is set to launch at the Cannes market soon, with CAA handling the movie’s domestic sale and Black Bear internationally.
While Star One will mark the first time that Teller and Redmayne have worked together, neither actor is a stranger to action or spy thrillers. Teller’s credits on that front include the Divergent movies and The Gorge. Redmayne has starred in the TV series The Day of the Jackal, which is based on Frederick Forsyth’s novel of the same name and its 1973 film adaptation. The show has also been renewed for season 2.
Teller can currently be seen in the biopic Michael, where he plays John Branca, Michael Jackson’s attorney. Attendees of the Cannes Film Festival will soon be able to see him starring opposite Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver in Paper Tigers, which has been nominated for the Palm d’Or. He’s also attached to the animated movie The Ark and the Aardvark, which is set to release in fall 2027.
Redmayne hasn’t starred in a movie since 2022, when Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and The Good Nurse were released. However, he’ll be back on the big screen in February 2027 for the thriller Panic Carefully, which co-stars Julia Roberts, Elizabeth Olsen, and Brian Tyree Henry.
In addition to The Bourne Identity, Liman’s action credits include Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jumper, Edge of Tomorrow, and Chaos Walking. It was also announced in August 2025 that he would reunite with Angelina Jolie for a spy thriller called The Initiative. It’s unclear if Liman still intends to make The Initiative (which was previously expected to begin filming in the first quarter of 2026) next, or if Star One is his new priority.
