Release Date, Story, & Everything We Know

Now that the Scrubs revival has finished its first season on ABC, fans are looking ahead to season 2. This new iteration of the beloved medical sitcom premiered in February 2026 and was quickly met with positive critical reception. Even better, the two-episode Scrubs revival debut collected 11.36 million viewers across streaming and linear within the first five days.

With this successful launch in the 2025-2026 TV season, clearly there’s an appetite for more Scrubs following its original run from 2001 to 2010. Creator Bill Lawrence and showrunner Aseem Batra effectively blended a lineup of familiar faces and brand-new characters into a winning combination at Sacred Heart Hospital. So the wait has commenced to learn what Scrubs season 2 holds in store.

ABC Has Renewed Scrubs For Season 11 (Season 2 Of The Revival)

The good news is that another season of the revival is now officially guaranteed. ABC renewed Scrubs for season 2 at the end of April 2026. If you prefer to think of Scrubs as one entity rather than two shows with a 16-year gap between them, then consider this next batch of episodes as season 11.

This renewal was announced 15 days after the Scrubs revival concluded its first season on ABC. Considering how some networks will wait months before publicly revealing a show’s fate, Scrubs fans can be grateful they didn’t have to wait nearly as long for that information.

When The Scrubs Revival Is Expected To Release On ABC

Just like Shifting Gears season 3 (which was also announced at the end of April), Scrubs season 2 will remain a midseason show on ABC’s 2026-2027 TV season. A specific premiere date hasn’t been revealed yet, but if ABC decides to take the same course of action that it did with season 1, then the next Scrubs season will begin in February 2027.

Since Scrubs season 2 will likely be another piece of midseason programming, presumably that means viewers can expect a similar episode count as season 1, which consisted of nine episodes. That said, if ABC decides to release the revival’s next season earlier than late February 2027, ideally, that would allow for some extra episodes to be tacked on.

What Scrubs Season 11’s Story Could Be

Dr. Cox smiling slightly in Scrubs season 10

There were several lingering plot threads left in Scrubs season 10 that season 11 could easily resume exploring. Perhaps most notably among them is that John C. McGinley’s Perry Cox was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in “My Odds.” Fortunately, Zach Braff’s John “J.D.” Dorian said that the disease has a high survival rate. However, Cox’s test results weren’t exactly glowing in the following episode, which understandably disappointed J.D.’s longtime mentor.

Bill Lawrence, who also recently worked with John C. McKinley on the HBO Max series Rooster, has promised fans that Dr. Cox will continue to appear in Scrubs. Additionally, McGinley said that he may be able to appear in more episodes next season because the Scrubs and Rooster filming schedules won’t overlap as much. That makes sense considering that Cox will need to continue his treatment at Sacred Heart.

That’s just the start of J.D.’s new troubles. In the final moments of the season 10 finale, he learned that Sacred Heart’s “Maintenance Guy” is actually the son of his longtime nemesis, The Janitor. However, these men became offended when they perceived that J.D. thought “Maintenance Guy” only got his job at Sacred Heart because of nepotism. Whether or not he and The Janitor are actually related or just lying ultimately doesn’t matter, because now Scrubs has a new villain.

On a more positive note, J.D.’s love life got a much-needed boost, as there were sparks between him and Rachel Bilson’s Charlie. Ava Bunn’s Tosh and Jason Dudman’s Asher are also exploring a romantic dynamic with each other. Between them and Sarah Chalke’s Elliot dating the pilot Wes, that’s at least three romantic avenues to explore in season 11. In March 2026, Lawrence also said that the Scrubs team would attempt to get Ken Jenkins to reprise Dr. Bob Kelso if the revival returned.
