Hyderabad Cricket Association names Ambati Rayudu as their new Director of Cricket Operations

In a move aimed at restoring the glory days of the Nizams of the cricket world, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has officially appointed former Indian international Ambati Rayudu as its new Director of Cricket Operations. The decision, ratified by the HCA Apex Council, marks a significant shift toward athlete-centric governance in one of India’s most historic cricketing hubs.

Rayudu, 40, brings a wealth of experience to the table, having represented India in 55 ODIs and six T20Is, alongside a storied career in the IPL with heavyweights Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. His appointment is seen as a strategic masterstroke to bridge the gap between administrative policy and on-field excellence.

Ambati Rayudu’s vision of prioritizing integrity and zero-tolerance approach to corruption

The centerpiece of Rayudu’s vision for Hyderabad cricket is a complete systemic overhaul. Speaking at a media conference alongside HCA President Amarnath and Secretary M. Jeevan Reddy, Rayudu was blunt about the challenges ahead. His primary mandate? An absolute purge of corruption.

My first priorities are corruption-free cricket and zero tolerance towards it, anyone found guilty, be it a player, a parent, a selector, or an umpire, will be reported to the ACSU and the BCCI and blacklisted immediately,” Rayudu stated.

This hardline stance aims to dismantle the influence culture that has occasionally plagued domestic circuits. By ensuring the selection committee remains insulated from external pressures, Rayudu hopes to create a meritocratic environment where talent from the districts and the city can flourish without hindrance.

Rayudu announces his future plans for player contracts and development

Beyond ethics, Rayudu is focused on the professional welfare of the athletes. Taking inspiration from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Rayudu announced plans to propose a formal player contract system. This move is designed to provide financial security to domestic cricketers, allowing them to focus entirely on their craft rather than worrying about the volatility of match-fee-based earnings.

Key pillars of the new operational roadmap include:

  • Administrative separation: Rayudu firmly believes that cricketing decisions should be isolated from political and administrative maneuvers.
  • Infrastructure & development: Overseeing high-performance programs to ensure Hyderabad consistently produces “India-ready” cricketers.
  • Player welfare: Implementing a support system that mirrors the professional standards of IPL franchises.

I am here to serve the players, Hyderabad deserves to be a powerhouse of Indian domestic cricket. It is my job to make sure we return to that status and become a primary feeder for the national team,” he concluded.

With the HCA entering this transformative phase, the cricketing community watches with bated breath. If Rayudu can successfully translate his no-nonsense on-field persona into his new executive role, the resurgence of Hyderabad cricket may arrive sooner than expected.
