´The mission is to win´ – Kompany only expects one outcome from PSG clash

Vincent Kompany says Bayern Munich’s “mission is to win” against Paris Saint-Germain as they look to overturn their Champions League semi-final deficit.

The two European giants played out an enthralling first leg, which finished 5-4 in PSG’s favour, with Ousmane Dembele’s goal proving to be the difference.

That tie was the highest scoring European Cup semi-final match since Eintracht Frankfurt beat Rangers 6-3 in 1959-60 – that match finished 12-4 to the German side on aggregate.

Kompany’s side must win by at least a two-goal cushion to go straight through to the final; a win by a margin of one goal would only be enough to force extra time.

Bayern have overturned a first-leg deficit four times out of 16 previous ties in the Champions League (since 1992-93), but none of those have come in the semi-final. They have been eliminated in five such ties.

But only Real Madrid (18) have qualified for more European Cup/Champions League finals than Bayern, who are looking to reach their 12th here (currently level with AC Milan on 11).

And Kompany says Bayern’s sole focus ahead of the second leg at Allianz Arena is on getting a victory.

“I don’t know if we should react to what people are saying about our playing philosophy,” Kompany said.

“The mission is to win the match, that’s all that matters. We want to win this match.
