Stephen King Praises Netflix’s Hit New R-Rated Horror Movie With “Best Line Of 2026 So Far”

The King of Horror himself is claiming that Netflix’s new hit horror movie contains the best line of the year, so far.

The author, who frequently offers his thoughts on movies, TV shows, and books on social media, has already praised a few films from this year, such as Jason Statham’s Shelter, which King called “terrific” and “the perfect antidote to Trump’s foolishness.” On the other hand, Netflix has already released a ton of new films this year, including The Rip, War Machine, and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. However, it’s Netflix’s new horror movie that contains this year’s best line, according to King.

10 Biggest New Movies Coming To Streaming In April 2026

April sees some of the most highly anticipated movie streaming releases of 2026, including one release that is five years in the making.

King claims that Netflix’s new movie, Thrash, contains this year’s best line of dialogue, so far. Written and directed by Tommy Wirkola (Violent Night), the survival thriller follows a coastal town, including a pregnant woman, decimated by a Category 5 hurricane, and the flooding brings in something far more frightening – ravenous sharks.

The day after its release on Netflix, Stephen King posted on X, cheekily claiming that Thrash contains the “best line of the year (so far),” which is: “Mommy’s got to fight some fucking sharks.” He also reposted @morgan_1ill, who wrote, “Not the best scene of the year (yes SO far!!) where the pregnant woman asks someone to measure how dilated she is by sight? Or the random Foster parent who loses half an ass?!?!? What ridiculous, fun movie!!

Thrash‘s cast includes Bridgerton‘s Phoebe Dynevor as the pregnant woman, Whitney Peak, two-time Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (In America, Blood Diamond), Matt Nable, Andrew Lees, Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen, Dante Ubaldi, Sami Afuni, Tyler Coppin, Adam Dunn, Chai Hansen, Annabel Mullion, Bert La Bonté, Sian Luxford, Amy Mathews, and Josh McConville.

Though King claims it contains this year’s best line of dialogue so far, Thrash has received mostly negative reviews from critics and audiences, resulting in 35% and 28% Rotten Tomatoes scores from those groups, respectively. In ScreenRant‘s Thrash review, Alex Harrison awarded it five out of 10 stars and said that Netflix’s shark thriller “delivers b-movie fun.” He continues:

Though more slickly put together than your average killer shark movie, Thrash is aware of its silliness and leans into it just the right amount… Despite having a decent budget and some recognizable actors to work with, writer-director Tommy Wirkola… ensured what ended up on screen was a pretty fun B picture.

Since its release on April 10, Thrash has been a hit on the streaming service, currently ranking No.1 on Netflix’s Top 10 movies in the world and in the United States for today, April 13, where it has been for the past three days.
