WATCH: Digvesh Rathi’s stunning boundary catch sends Finn Allen packing in KKR vs LSG IPL 2026 clash

A moment of brilliance in the field turned the tide early in the IPL 2026 encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), as young fielder Digvesh Rathi pulled off a sensational catch to dismiss Finn Allen at the iconic Eden Gardens. The stunning effort not only removed a dangerous batter but also gave LSG early control in a must-win contest for KKR.

After winning the toss, Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant chose to field first — a decision that paid immediate dividends. KKR, desperate to register their first win of the season, needed a strong start, but their plans were derailed early.

Opening batter Allen, known for his aggressive stroke play, failed to capitalize and was dismissed for just 9 runs. The wicket came in only the second over, leaving KKR under early pressure in a high-stakes fixture.

The highlight of the moment came on the fourth ball of the second over when Prince Yadav delivered a sharp back-of-a-length ball, clocked at over 137 km/h. The delivery angled away slightly, tempting Allen to go for an expansive shot across the line. However, the batter mistimed his stroke, resulting in a thick top edge that soared towards the third-man boundary. For a brief moment, it looked destined to sail over the ropes for a six.

That’s when Rathi produced a moment of magic. Positioned near the boundary line, Rathi showed exceptional awareness and composure. He tracked the ball perfectly, adjusted his stance while staying balanced near the advertising cushions, and completed a clean two-handed catch — all while ensuring he didn’t step on the rope.

The execution required sharp reflexes, spatial awareness, and nerves of steel, making it one of the standout fielding efforts of IPL 2026 so far.

Crucial game for the Knight Riders

The match holds significant importance for KKR, who are still desperately searching for their first win this season. Under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, the team has endured a frustrating start to their IPL 2026 campaign, losing their opening two matches in underwhelming fashion. Their third outing offered a chance to bounce back, but persistent rain led to a wet outfield, forcing the game to be abandoned and leaving them with just a single point. With pressure steadily mounting and momentum lacking, this fixture becomes crucial for KKR to finally get their campaign back on track.
