Before Reacher season 4, Alan Ritchson’s iconic TV character will first appear in the upcoming Neagley spinoff show. While little seems to be known about the capacity of his role in the Neagley spinoff show, his return as Jack Reacher will pay off one of the most intimate and vulnerable interactions between Reacher and Neagley from season 2.

Both Reacher and Neagley have a stoic exterior, which can make them seem emotionally guarded. However, when they are around one another, they find creative ways to express how much their companionship means to them. While Reacher does this by keeping Neagley away from some of his dangerous missions, Neagley does not shy away from reminding him that his friends are his family.

In an interesting scene from season 2, though, both characters let their guards down and momentarily abandon their usual restraint. Bringing her own spin on Reacher’s iconic line, “I ever tell you you’re smart, Neagley,“ Neagley asks him if she ever told him how good of a friend he is. Like Neagley, Reacher responds with three words, “Not nearly enough.” This intimate sequence will get the perfect pay off in the Neagley spinoff show.

Reacher’s Confirmed Return In The Neagley Spinoff Promises To Pay Off Season 2’s Heartwarming Scene

Jack Reacher is supposed to be a drifter who avoids getting weighed down by societal expectations or relationships. In season 2’s early moments, he seems to confront his own lifestyle when he realizes he knows little about his friends from the military. Towards the end of the season, however, he realizes that he is better off living the way he always has instead of settling down like most others.

Even his fleeting romantic relationships perfectly reflect how he approaches intimacy and expects it to be free from any sense of permanence.

However, with Neagley, Reacher seems to be breaking his own rules. In every Reacher season, so far, the Alan Ritchson character has not held himself back from reconnecting with his military friend. Although he leaves all his romantic interests behind, his relationship with Neagley barely staggers as he keeps reaching out to her for help or support.

While his role in the upcoming Neagley spinoff remains unknown, it is obvious that he will briefly appear to help Neagley. This will further establish that instead of always embracing the open road, Reacher is willing to break his lifestyle choice time and again to ensure that Neagley gets the help she needs.

With this, Reacher will perfectly establish that he is the “good friend” Neagley believes him to be when she says, “I ever tell you you’re a good friend, Reacher?” Even towards the end of Reacher season 2, Neagley reminds the Alan Ritchson character that his teammates from the military are his family.

Although Reacher does not directly respond to this, he later smiles and feels good about the fact that, despite choosing to live an unconventional life, he will always have friends he can turn to. His reunion with Neagley in the upcoming spin-off will establish that he values his relationship with her as much as she does. This, in turn, will perfectly pay off their heartwarming scenes from previous seasons.

Neagley’s Return Seems Likely In Reacher Season 4 After Her Spinoff

Frances Neagley is not as significant of a character in the original Lee Child books. While she is one of the few characters that have recurring roles in multiple books, she remains fairly sidelined in the source material. The Prime Video show, however, has drifted away from the books to accommodate her in the story.

Considering how she has been a part of every Reacher installment so far and will also teamup with Jack Reacher in her upcoming spinoff series, her return seems likely in the parent show’s season 4.

Reacher‘s seasons 1 and 3 adapted Lee Child’s Killing Floor and Persuader, respectively. Both original books do not include Neagley in any capacity. Yet, the Prime Video show found a way to fit her in. Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow, which Reacher season 4 is adapting, also does not feature Neagley. However, like seasons 1 and 3, it seems likely that season 4, too, will retcon the novel and mark her return.

In some ways, Neagley’s consistent return in every Reacher season potentially diminishes the Alan Ritchson character’s persona as a lone wolf. Overall, though, her ability to voice Reacher’s inner thoughts and serve as his emotional anchor makes Jack Reacher seem more human and relatable.
