Isak included in Liverpool squad for PSG clash

Alexander Isak has been included in Liverpool’s squad for their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined since December after suffering an ankle injury and fibula fracture during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham.

The striker has made just 16 appearances for the Reds since his £125m move from Newcastle United on deadline day last summer, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Although he has been named in the squad travelling to Paris, Arne Slot confirmed Isak will not start at the Parc des Princes.

“He finished close to a week of team training sessions; he can play a part, otherwise I wouldn’t take him,” said Slot.

“We think we can get a performance out of him now, but not to start.”

Up to the start of this quarter-final round, PSG (90) and Liverpool (85) were the two teams with the most shots on target in the Champions League this season.

However, PSG have scored 34 goals from 25.2 xG this term (+8.8), while Liverpool have netted just 24 times from 27.7 xG (-3.7).
