Angel Reese joins Atlanta Dream in blockbuster trade

Chicago Sky have traded WNBA All-Star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream in a deal that signals a significant roster reset for both franchises.

The agreement sees Atlanta acquire Reese along with 2028 second-round pick swap rights, while Chicago receives first-round selections in 2027 and 2028, strengthening their long-term draft capital.

Reese, 23, leaves Chicago after a standout start to her professional career. She led the league in rebounding last season with 12.6 per game and has now recorded back-to-back campaigns averaging at least 12 boards – a benchmark no other player in WNBA history has reached.

She also topped the Sky’s charts for scoring and assists, while registering 23 double-doubles across the season.

Her move to Atlanta places her alongside established perimeter threats such as Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, with the Dream coming off a strong regular season before an early play-off exit.

The trade follows a period of tension between Reese and the Sky. During the previous season, she publicly questioned the team’s roster direction and stressed the need for higher-level talent, comments that led to internal disciplinary action.

From Chicago’s perspective, the deal provides some much-needed flexibility. The organisation now holds five first-round picks across the next three drafts, positioning them to reshape the roster after consecutive seasons without a play-off appearance.
