Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fans have been speculating over what the potential next DLC might look like after the surprise release of Verso’s Drafts last year. It’s become the subject of great debate among players, with many questioning whether another DLC is even in the cards.
After an official social media post from Sandfall Interactive developers (via Reddit), Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fans have begun questioning what a new Gustave DLC might look like and whether it’s the best direction for the game.
Clair Obscur Fans Divided On A New Gustave DLC
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fans are losing it over a new “teaser” post on social media from an official account that showcased Gustave “in a different world,” sparking hopes that there might be a potential Gustave DLC in the works at Sandfall Interactive. The image showcases Gustave on a bench with flowers, and implies an alternate reality where he may potentially survive.
While the post itself is only meant to entertain the thought of Gustave’s fate changing, players have begun speculating what a “Gustave DLC” might potentially look like. Since the game’s release, Gustave’s fate has become one of the most iconic moments of the game, and is arguably one of the greatest narrative twists in modern video games.
While Gustave’s death at the end of Act 1 establishes what’s at stake in the game’s story and is a core reason players become so invested in the story, many fans wish that Gustave’s gameplay would have been expanded to include a NG+ option that would allow us to play as Gustave through the remainder of Acts 2 and 3.
“NG+ playable Gustave would be fun,” says Ookami_Lord, while players like Moraz_iel argue “the cognitive dissonance would be severe,” and a Gustave DLC would simply not work.
Could A Gustave DLC Work?
Fans like DoubleMatt1 suggest that a Gustave DLC would require “[giving] him a full skill tree and gradients for him to really keep up with the rest of the party,” which ThatRandomJew7 suggests that “if modders can, I see no reason why Sandfall can’t do it even better in an official implementation,” highlighting a unique Gustave mod that makes his character playable in the later acts.
Ultimately, Gustave is ripe for enhanced gameplay elements that expand his skill tree with more unique unlockable skills throughout a NG+ run. While the story itself is unlikely to change, players probably wouldn’t mind the “cognitive dissonance” as long as combat was fun, well-thought out, and Gustave’s weapons and skills were on par with the other characters’.
While there’s still no official confirmation of another Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 DLC, the thought of a unique Gustave DLC that allows us to unlock new skills and weapon abilities would be a complete game-changer.
