Red Dead Redemption 2 60fps Update Unites Gamers

Red Dead Redemption 2 is, in many people’s opinion, one of the greatest games of all time, offering an immense cinematic experience in a world filled with detail and stories during the dying days of the Wild West.

Rockstar’s epic is perfect in many ways, though given that it came out in 2018, there are some signs of aging that have started to show if you return to the game with the added context of being a player in 2026.

As such, many people have been calling for a full remaster of the game, though given the fact that the developer’s attention is almost entirely focused on Grand Theft Auto VI, that seems like quite an unlikely future. That said, it could benefit from a much smaller change that players have been requesting for some time and that’s considerably more achievable in the short-term.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Doesn’t Need A Remaster, Just An Update

Over on Reddit, one user shared a post in which they contended that Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t need a full remaster, and that the experience would be immeasurably improved by a 60 FPS update for current generation consoles. It’s a solid idea, and one that drew plenty of agreement in the responses.

“No it doesn’t. The PS5 version is utilizing checkerboard 4k, making it give off a blurry look. The Xbox Series X version is a full 4k. A patch to give full 4k and 60fps is what the game truly needs, and a touch up on its terrible HDR implementation,” one comment read.

“I think the reason they haven’t done it yet is that they want a reason to justify charging for an upgrade, but just increasing the frame rate isn’t enough justification. Maybe they could add ray tracing or something, but the game already looks so good it’s really hard to justify charging for a new version,” another added.

Others were less bothered, with one saying, “Sooooo… I’m going to be honest and say I don’t notice any issue with 30 FPS. I play on PS5, and it’s smooth and gorgeous – aside from a handful of detail artifacting. I suppose 60 FPS would be nice, but it just isn’t a big deal IMO.”

60fps In Red Dead Redemption 2 Would Make All The Difference

However you feel about the need for a potential remaster, 60 FPS does make a noticeable difference to gameplay when jumping up from a locked 30 FPS. If Rockstar can make that a reality for Red Dead Redemption 2, it would make all the difference, so let’s hope it happens before too long.
