Released in 2010 as the sixth installment in the Halo franchise, Halo: Reach acts as a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved and was met with critical acclaim when it first launched, being praised for its original soundtrack, gameplay, and story. Taking place in 2552, the story follows Noble Six, a member of an elite squad of supersoldiers, who must defend the human world known as the Reach as it is threatened to be taken over by an alien theocracy known as the Covenant.
Marking the last Halo entry to be developed by Bungie, Halo: Reach is widely regarded as one of the best in the long-running series, and was later rereleased as part of the Halo: Master Chief Collection in 2019.
Will Halo: Reach Ever Get A Remake?
As with every successful entry in a beloved franchise, calls for a remake will always rear their heads following the title’s milestone anniversaries. Now with Halo: Reach celebrating its 16th anniversary, does this make it eligible for a remake, or is its inclusion in the Halo: Master Chief Collection good enough? Well, in a discussion over on r/halo, one fan asked, “What would everyone think of a Halo: Reach Remake? Or Reach 2? An even deeper prequel about what Noble Six did before he joined Noble team.” Praising the ability to personalize your Spartan, as well as mentioning the iconic story itself. However, they added, “I know for a fact though, if Reach was remade, some sort of battle pass would be added. Which would ruin it. Reach was the last Halo to have customization as only skill-based. You couldn’t buy your way up. You had to earn it.”
Since being taken over by 343 Industries (now Halo Studios), the Halo franchise has become a victim of microtransactions, much like many titles under the Microsoft subsidiary banner. As such, a Halo: Reach remake could feature some modern-day features that we would rather not include. Not only that, but it seems as though a potential Halo: Reach remake is not being received well by fans, who took to the Reddit comments to share their thoughts.
“Definitely would be up there in terms of totally redundant remakes,” one user shared. Another agreed, adding, “I absolutely hate the concept of exploring the backstory of a character whose entire point is to be a mystery. It’s like science: s**t is magic until you overexplain it, and now it’s not magic, it’s just science. I’d prefer my Spartans and my Noble Six kept magical.” For one user, they would just prefer a new Halo entry which will be as good as the originals. “No remakes. No remasters. No reselling older Halo games from when Halo was good. Make a good game,” they said simply.
Halo Fans Have Plenty To Look Forward To
Nevertheless, Halo fans still have an exciting year ahead as Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of the original 2001 title, is set for launch in 2026, with rumors suggesting that it could land as early as June—August. Developed by Halo Studios, it has been created using Unreal Engine 5, and will launch on the Xbox Series X/S and PC, as well as plans to launch on the PlayStation 5, marking a first in Halo history. Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Halo franchise, a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved is guaranteed to make fans happy whilst Halo Studios perhaps works on some of this highly requested remakes…
