3 Years Later, G.I. Joe Is Finally Ready To Recruit One Of The Coolest Transformers

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for G.I. Joe #19

Skybound’s Energon Universe has finally reached a very exciting crossover moment with one of the Transformers ready to become an official member of G.I. Joe.

The Autobots and Decepticons have been warring with each other in this new shared comics universe, with G.I. Joe and Cobra similarly battling over energon as well. While those respective conflicts have largely been kept separate thus far, things may soon change thanks to a potential new Autobot recruit in the pages of G.I. Joe.

The Truth Comes Out: Autobot Hound Has Been Hiding Among G.I. Joe

The truth finally comes out in Joshua Williamson and Andrea Milana’s G.I. Joe #19. After saving the life of Duke in the recent Dreadnok War, Hound was exposed to both G.I. Joe and Cobra, no longer able to hide in disguise as Clutch’s military Jeep as he had been since last year’s Energon Universe Special (when the Autobot and Clutch first met).

For nearly a year, Hound had remained hidden as Clutch’s ride, as his broken transponder left him unable to contact his fellow Autobots.

Clutch Defends Hound in GI Joe #19

Now, G.I. Joe #19 opens with Duke furious with Clutch. After all, Duke’s been carrying a major vendetta against the Transformers ever since Decepticon Starscream killed his wingman, believing that all the alien robots were just as sinister.

However, Clutch defends Hound in this new issue, identifying the classic G1 Autobot scout as a fellow soldier, arguing that he’s already a member of their ranks: “Hound is a G.I. Joe!”

Has The Time Come For G.I. Joe To Officially Recruit Hound?

Hound Speaks With Duke in GI Joe #19

While Duke might not be fully convinced by the issue’s end, Hound has already proven his value by saving his life, while also offering some much-needed intel about the Autobot-Decepticon war. He even tells Duke about Optimus Prime with the issue teasing that Hound could very well be the one who facilitates the first meeting between the two leaders.

It also doesn’t hurt that Hound could provide some major backup to the Joes in their war with Cobra and their energon-powered weapons (and the Joes need every advantage they can get).

Unlike the Bayverse’s Hound voiced by John Goodman, this Energon Universe Hound feels far more faithful to Hound’s classic G1 roots. Likewise, this new alliance with the Joes feels like the perfect cherry on top, with Hound being the perfect new bridge between the two teams of heroes.

G.I. Joe #19 is available now from Image Comics.
