26 Episodes Remain on Paramount+

47 has been Star Trek‘s most significant number for decades, but the new magic number is now 26 thanks to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The two remaining Star Trek series on Paramount+ have now set their conclusions, with both Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds gearing up to premiere their final seasons in 2027.

Since Star Trek: The Next Generation season 4, when writer Joseph Menosky began inserting 47 in scripts, Star Trek‘s ‘prime number’ became 47. In various incarnations, the number 47 popped up repeatedly in nearly every Star Trek TV series and movie. In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Omega-47 was the all-powerful substance Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti) wanted to use to destroy the United Federation of Planets.

Production of Paramount+’s Star Trek TV series is now complete, with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds finishing production on its fifth and final season in December 2025, and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy being canceled after season 2‘s filming wrapped in late February. With no new Star Trek TV projects in production or greenlit, Star Trek now has a new number more prominent than 47.

Star Trek’s New Magic Number Is 26

As the total count of remaining episodes yet to premiere on Paramount+, 26 is now the most important number to Star Trek and its fans. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 will consist of 10 episodes that are expected to drop in early 2027. Unfortunately, these 10 episodes now encompass the second half of the series.

Star Trek’s Future Got Canceled Too

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy ending with season 2 is a hard stop to both a TV series and the farthest point of Star Trek’s timeline.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has more episodes banked and waiting to premiere. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 consists of 10 episodes and is targeted to premiere later in 2026 on Paramount+. Expect a summer launch, which is traditionally when Paramount+ has released new episodes of Strange New Worlds.

In 2027, likely after Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 takes its final bow, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will premiere season 5, which will consist of only 6 episodes. Paramount+ originally planned to end Strange New Worlds with season 4, but executive producers Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers negotiated for 6 more episodes as the final season.

This means only 26 total episodes remain for Star Trek on Paramount+. It’s the last wave of new episodes to close out an epic run that began in 2017 with Star Trek: Discovery‘s 65 episodes, Star Trek: Picard’s 30 episodes, Star Trek: Lower Decks‘ 50 episodes, and Star Trek: Prodigy‘s 40 episodes.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘s 20 episodes and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ 46 episodes bring the sum total of Star Trek on Paramount+’s episodes produced by Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout to 251, another magic number for Star Trek fans to note. This doesn’t include Star Trek: Section 31, the first and only Star Trek movie made for streaming on Paramount+.

Why Star Trek’s Next 26 Episodes Are Worth Being Excited For

Following the news of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘s premature cancellation, it’s understandable that Star Trek fans who love and support this era are upset and question the future of the franchise. It’s worth noting Paramount Skydance could announce a new Star Trek TV project and put it into production at some point in 2026 or 2027.

Paramount Skydance wants to triple its feature film releases, and multiple Star Trek movies are reportedly being developed as part of that agenda.

If not, however, fans are bracing for the possibility that Star Trek will go on a hiatus, though it likely won’t last 12 years like the dark ages between Star Trek: Enterprise ending in 2005 and Star Trek: Discovery launching a new era in 2017. Paramount Skydance does value the Star Trek IP and won’t let the TV franchise lie dormant for too long.

Uncertainty about the future and the possibility of a new direction for Star Trek make the remaining 26 episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds even more important. Sophomore year for Starfleet Academy’s cadets and the final voyages of Captain Christopher Pike’s (Anson Mount) Starship Enterprise are the last hurrah of this era of Star Trek on Paramount+.

10 more hours are left to enjoy the evolution, fun, and romances of our new favorite characters in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, while 16 more episodes remain to explore strange new worlds with our friends aboard Captain Pike’s Starship Enterprise before Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) takes command.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds still have 26 more hours of adventures to look forward to, and by accounts from the executive producers and casts, fans are in for something special.

What Star Trek will be after these final 26 episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is anyone’s guess, but it’s a future fans will face boldly in the best Starfleet fashion.
