The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has finally been released in full, featuring some very exciting reveals for the new MCU era coming for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Featuring first looks at villains and allies old and new, major power upgrades, and some surprising status quo shifts, there’s plenty of ground to cover.

Following a 24-hour promotional campaign where fans from all over the world dropped 2-second snippets of the new trailer online every hour, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have finally released the full Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer on the morning of March 18th.

Now in all of its glory, here’s our breakdown of the biggest moments and reveals from Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s first trailer.

Breaking Down The Biggest Moments From The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer

A Spider-Verse Style Upside-Down Hang — The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer opens with Peter Parker on his phone while sitting/hanging upside down, mirroring similar shots from Sony’s animated Spider-Verse movies (like Miles and Gwen in the first act of Across the Spider-Verse).

Peter Parker’s No Way Home Letter — A voice-over from Peter Parker reveals the contents of the letter he chose not to give to MJ at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, explaining the spell that Doctor Strange used, which made the world forget about Peter Parker. However, it appears he’s still holding onto the letter.

Spider-Man Gets The Key To The City (With Daredevil: Born Again Connections) — MJ and Ned are shown watching Spider-Man receive the key to the city on television. Interestingly, it looks as though the key is being given by Sheila Rivera, Wilson Fisk’s campaign manager and political advisor from Daredevil: Born Again season 1.

Because Sheila had a career in New York politics before Fisk, this scene with Spider-Man may take place before Fisk was elected and declared war on vigilantes.

First Look At The Punisher In Spider-Man Brand New Day — During a major chase sequence involving Spider-Man and an armored personnel carrier, Jon Bernthal makes his big-screen MCU debut as The Punisher in his battle van, clashing with Peter and getting his mouth webbed up before he can curse at the Webslinger.

MJ Has A New Boyfriend (Eman Esfandi) — During a party that looks to be in MJ’s apartment, actor Eman Esfandi (Ahsoka) appears to be MJ’s new love interest, with many speculating that this could be the MCU’s version of Watson’s infamous and universally hated boyfriend named Paul from more current Marvel Comics runs.

Peter Parker Wakes Up In A Web Cocoon — Experiencing sudden changes to his body, Peter wakes up in a webbed cocoon high above the city without his webshooters. However, it’s then teased that Peter now has organic webbing, mirroring a similar evolution from the comics and, of course, Tobey Maguire’s live-action Spider-Man.

Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day — Seeking help to understand what’s happening to him, Peter seeks the help of Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, who will likely help Peter learn more about his ongoing mutations (while also being rumored to return as the Savage Hulk in the new Spider-Man movie).

First Look At Sadie Sink’s Brand New Day Character (And Powers?) — While we don’t see their face, a mysterious figure in a yellow hood looks to be a central figure who’s potentially being held against their will. Combined with subsequent shots of various minds being possessed, this new trailer absolutely supports the ongoing speculation that Sadie Sink is playing a new version of the X-Men’s Jean Grey.

First Look At Trammell Tillman’s New MCU Character — We also get our first look at Severance and Mission Impossible’s Trammel Tillman in the MCU, shown speaking with Spider-Man and talking about a significant danger “they can’t even see.“

Mac Gargan’s MCU Return As Scorpion — Almost a decade after Michael Mando made his MCU debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming, we’re finally going to see Gargan as Scorpion with an impressive mechanized suit in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, seen in the new trailer battling the Webslinger with a deadly prehensile tail.

Recreating Marvel’s Amazing Fantasy #15 — An incredible slow-motion shot sees Tom Holland’s Spider-Man carrying a thug while webslinging through the streets of New York, perfectly recreating the iconic cover art from 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15, the first Spider-Man story from Marvel Comics.

First Look At The MCU’s Boomerang In Brand New Day — Another great slow-motion shot features Spider-Man evading Boomerang, a classic Spider-Man foe from the comics who will be making his MCU debut in Brand New Day. On the page, Peter Parker was once roommates with Boomerang’s Fredrick Myers, though it remains to be seen if the same will happen in the upcoming MCU movie.

First Look At The MCU’s Tarantula In Brand New Day — Tarantula will also be making his MCU debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, shown fighting Spider-Man in what will likely be a montage showing audiences what Peter Parker has been up to since the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, effectively spending the majority of his time as Spider-Man protecting New York with very little interest in living his life as Peter Parker.

Spider-Man Corrupted By Mental Powers (Or Mutating DNA?) — In the final shots of the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, we see Peter Parker’s eyes going completely black. This could be a sign of his mutating DNA turning him into something more monstrous, like the original comics’ Man-Spider.

However, it could also be a visual sign that Spider-Man will be threatened by a similar mental possession, like those that were seen earlier in the new MCU trailer.

Spider-Man vs The Hand in Brand New Day Trailer — The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer culminates with Spider-Man taking on The Hand in multiple locations. A sinister ninja clan that originally debuted in Netflix’s Daredevil, it looks as though Spider-Man will at one point cross paths with the ninjas inside a prison without his mask, featuring an impressive shot where Peter breaks apart one of their swords with his webs.

This is then followed by another epic slow-motion shot where Spider-Man and multiple Hand warriors are leaping directly at each other in midair between buildings ahead of the trailer’s Brand New Day title card.

MJ & Ned’s “Friendly Neighbor” — The final scene in the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer teases that Peter Parker is neighbors with MJ and Ned, suggesting that he’s always been close by, making sure they’re both okay despite largely keeping his distance/not revealing their true history (at least not yet). After all, the new trailer also featured a brief shot of MJ and Spider-Man together.

Keith David Narrating (The Life Cycle of Spiders) — It’s also worth pointing out that actor Keith David appears to be the voice narrating the back half of the trailer with the “life cycle of spiders.” While it remains to be seen if he’ll have an actual role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day itself (perhaps Robbie Robertson?), David’s inclusion in the trailer is pretty cool all the same.
