The Owl House has a new official upcoming sequel that promises to be a perfect follow-up on the original show for fans of the series. While the main show ended in 2023, The Owl House has remained a beloved franchise thanks to a combination of its larger-than-life magical world of the Demon Realm, and thanks to the endearing and nuanced characters the show centered on.
This consistent popularity has no doubt helped pave the path to the new installment in the series, which has just been revealed as only months away. Though we’ve much to learn about what this next step holds for the franchise story-wise, the details we do have certainly suggest this is a perfect follow-up on the original story and ending of The Owl House itself.
The Owl House: The Long-Lived King Has Officially Been Announced For The Franchise
February 2026 brought with it the official announcement that The Owl House: The Long-Lived King – a follow-up graphic novel that expands on the story of the animated show – is on the relatively near horizon, given pre-orders state the graphic novel will be released on September 29, 2026.
While many of the specifics around The Owl House: The Long-Lived King are as of yet unknown, the blurb for the release confirms it’s set after the ending of the show itself – as is alluded to by the cover art – with creator Dana Terrace confirming it takes place between The Owl House‘s finale and the ending time skip, and that this could even lead to further installments depending on how things go.
The Owl House: The Long-Lived King already promises to have an emotional story, which revolves around main character Luz losing her memories after the titular King attempts to wipe his own to forget that his Titan nature sets him up to outlive all of his friends and loved ones, teeing things up for a plot that builds on The Owl House‘s history of crafting narratives that balance comedy and more emotive moments.
Why The Owl House: The Long-Lived King Is The Perfect Follow-Up For The Series
The Owl House was a truly enjoyable animated fantasy show that had something in its story for everyone – but that doesn’t mean the series’ path was entirely uncomplicated.
Ultimately, The Owl House‘s run was a shortened one, with Dana Terrace stating on Reddit that this in part appeared to be due to the series not fitting Disney’s “brand“. With this in mind, it seems releasing a spin-off show or special would have presented several challenges given this set of circumstances.
Having The Owl House‘s sequel story instead be a follow-up graphic novel makes even more sense as a result, particularly in terms of ensuring the narrative of this project can be followed exactly as intended, and without unforeseen circumstances changing its course. As such, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about what the next chapter of The Owl House franchise holds for its protagonists.
